Today
contact lenses are very popular because of the continious improvement they
have seen over the last years. They fit perfectly on the eye shape, they can
hardly be felt and they are hydrophilic as well as permeable to air.
These attributes can only be realized with the help of modern plasma coating technology. Due to a very thin DLC coating (Thin film coating) it is possible to make the surface hydrophilic to improve the wettability without influencing the permeability to air. At the same time the DLC coating improves the scratch resistance of the lens.
One of the major challenges is to deposit DLC at relatively low temperatur. Only PECVD (plasma enhanced vapor deposition) allows such temperatures. JE PlasmaConsult developed continously PECVD systems and sources for DLC depostion and offers today unique solutions for plasma coating.
